Catholic Bishops Call for Fix of Immigration

Congress will debate the largest immigration overhaul in 30 years today. Bishops ask for a practical and humane bill that is grounded in the Catholic experience.
They claim to help immigrants with jobs and other basic assistance all over the country, and call for a "hand of welcome" to greet our new community members.

Pointing out the suffering of immigrants to the US, they claim it is the job of the American government to correct the convoluted legal processes which immigrants must face in order to be legalized. They admit that the current bill may not be perfect, but it is a big step toward a much-needed reform.
