GOP Dissent Among the Ranks

Although Senators have been collaborating to put together the bipartisan bill for immigration reform, the true dissent is within the Republican party itself.
Mainly, opposition from conservatives like Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions and Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been drawing attention to the apparent toothlessness of the border security portion of the bill and the worries about outsourcing jobs to immigrants.

The most important reason for the solidarity between the Senate is the fact that House is drafting its own version of an immigration reform bill and the Senate needs to have a clear show of support for their bill. The House's version differs because it does not have a pathway to citizenship for any immigrants that entered the U.S. illegally.


Hopeful supporters of immigration reform estimate the Senate will have a full vote before the Independence Day recess.
