Liberal Groups Retract Support of Senate Immigration Plan

WASHINGTON -- Senate's "Border Surge" plan has enraged several liberal interest groups, with one even withdrawing its support for the bi-partisan measure.
Berkeley, California's Presente.org is a liberal organization that has supported the immigration reform bill in the past has expressed outrage at the new amendment and have withdrawn its support of the bill altogether. They claim that such high numbers of border security will militarize border towns and cause the convoluted process of legal entry into the US to become even more difficult.

"As advocates for real immigration reform, we cannot, in good conscience, support a bill that's guaranteed to deepen the crisis for citizens and non-citizens living in border communities," said Arturo Carmona, executive director of Presente.org. "As the legislation moves to the House, we are drawing a line that we cannot and will not accept more extreme measures disguised as 'bi-partisan immigration reform.'"

Other liberal interest groups are disappointed as well. MoveOn.org complained because it "wastes billion of taxpayer's dollars."
